Album: The songs of Kings and Princes of the Middle Ages
Ensamble: Perceval
Video: When it was possible, I put the notes and lyrics of the songs from the original manuscripts. When I have not found musical sources, I have used images concerning musicians.
Manuscripts are:
272v) - Naples Bible

If our society would start to celebrate the great personalities of the past for their art instead that for their wars, massacres and battles, surely we could create a better society.

From the booklet of this album, Guy Roberts wrote:
It is customary today to smile at the literary or artistic pretentions of the "Great". If History willingly grants them a leading role as humanist and protector of the arts, it is, by contrast, more caustic towards their talents as artists. This judgement, certainly valid for the Renaissance, cannot be applied to this fascinating period of toubadores and trouveres.
The art of these "trouveurs" of the XIth, XIIth and XIIIth centuries is a feudal art; knights, lord and princes opposing one another in poetic joustings with the greatest being, despite their political occupations, not the least among these musicnan-poets. Thibaut of Navarre and Alfonso the Wise, for example, are to be found among the finest artists of these few generations.
